What happens during Medicare’s annual enrollment period?

What can I change about my Medicare coverage during the annual enrollment period?

The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) for Medicare, which takes place from October 15 to December 7 each year, allows you to make several important changes to your Medicare coverage. Here’s what you can change during this period:

  1. Switch from Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) to a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C):

    • If you’re enrolled in Original Medicare, you can choose to switch to a Medicare Advantage Plan, which may offer additional benefits such as dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.

  2. Switch from Medicare Advantage back to Original Medicare:

    • If you’re currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan and want to return to Original Medicare, you can make that change during AEP.

  3. Change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another:

    • If you’re already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan but want to switch to a different plan that may better fit your healthcare needs, you can do so during this period.

  4. Enroll in, change, or drop Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Plan):

    • If you’re looking to add or change your prescription drug coverage, AEP is the time to do so. You can also drop your Part D coverage if you no longer need it.

  5. Switch from one Medicare Part D Plan to another:

    • If your prescription needs have changed or you’ve found a Part D plan that offers better coverage or lower costs, you can switch plans during AEP.

Making changes during AEP allows you to adjust your coverage based on your current healthcare needs. If you need guidance on what changes are best for you, you can schedule an appointment with a Tsunami Advisor here: Schedule an Appointment.
